Some real insight

I love political coverage, and I know that I’m part of the problem when media covers the superficial, because I read it, forward it, link to it, etc. I’m one of the customers who pays attention to the often trivial of political campaigns and creates a market for it. That’s why today, I’m not posting about to a story that doesn’t really reflect the lives of Americans or their interests, but rather I’m going to post a clip that struck me. Yes, this is produced by the Obama campaign; and while I think it’s a very powerful testament to his campaign, it more importantly shows something else. Beyond the hope that they’ve found and level of engagement that Barack Obama’s candidacy (and just as notably, their teacher) has brought them, I think we can get a glimpse into their lives and minds when you listen to what it is that they now feel they can overcome, or they now see as an old way of thinking. It, if only for a moment, puts us into the shoes of these students and shows us what they see as the obstacles in their lives and paths to success.

Imagine if the nightly news evolved into a daily report on the day’s progress toward some goal chosen by consensus by a large majority the people in the country– a progerss update instead of how much worse things have gotten. This was a great clip.
