Banning Marriage

March 17, 2009

One of the best articulations of a (completely unrealistic) solution to the issue of gay marriage that I would completely support.

I don’t think this is unrealistic at all. This is EXACTLY what needs to be done. The sooner this country accepts the separation of church and state, the better.

You don’t need to ban marriage, just don’t give it legal significance. Each church(which the government is forbidden to control) defines it’s own rules and traditions-marriage amoung them. If two people want to be married, they pick a church they like, and get married there. That’s what’s been done forever. Then go to the court house and legalize it with the needed paperwork. It’s not the place of any church to interfer with legal part.

I don’t think this article is really advocating for the ban of marriage — I think it is saying exactly what you just said (and what I believe the case should be).

Churches can marry whomever they see fit – marriage is a religious institution.
The state should just be licensing some kind of civil union…
