CA Supreme Court: 18,000 Gay Couples Remain Equal?

May 26, 2009

The thing that strikes me most about the California Supreme Court upholding Prop 8 is the fact that they didn’t divorce the 18,000 couples who rushed to get married before Prop 8 passed.  How do opponents of marriage equality, who argue that same sex marriages will destroy their own marriages, rectify the fact that there are 36,000 happily married gay people couples who aren’t undermining their marriages?  The ruling leaves the status of equality in limbo, and I think oddly undermines the opponent’s position.  Is their next argument going to be that 18,001 same sex marriages would destroy society?
