Whose Argument Moves You More?

October 16, 2009

Here’s the canvassing “script” for Stand for Marriage Maine. The argument is convoluted and contains too much legalese (and alliteration) to be really effective.   Phrases like:

  • “Compelling interest.”
  • “Familial relationships.”
  • “Traditional monogamous marriage.”
  • “Physical and mental health.”
  • “Gender specific terms relating to the marital relationship…”

Sit back, close your eyes, and imagine someone coming to your door to read you this script.  Convinced?

If you can’t imagine it, just have a listen:

Special shoutout to my script-reading roommate!

Somehow, this doesn’t trump the real world impact of their position as explained by people who have suffered under this inequality.  Different state and different ballot initative, but same fundamental issues of inequality we hear over and over again:

Which moves you more?
